Veronica A. Saar

Veronica was born February 14, 1931, in Gleasonton, Pa. Her parents were the late John Z. and Freda (Gawblick) Harger. She was the youngest of seven children.

In addition to her husband of 51 years, Edward B. Saar, Veronica was preceded in death by half brothers, Kenneth Smithgall, Robert Smithgall, and Merrill Smithgall; brothers, John Paul Harger and Paul Frank Harger; and sister, Pauline Frances Harger.

Veronica married Edward B. Saar October 17, 1970. They had no children. She is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews, as well as her best friend Ann West.

Ed and Ronnie enjoyed camping, traveling, boating, and going to Penn State Football games with close friends. Ronnie liked tending to her flowers and plantings. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, and eating out as she did not like to cook.

When asked about her long marriage, she contributed it to laughter, as she and Ed kept their marriage full of happy moments.

Veronica attended school in North Bend, Farwell Renovo, graduating from St. Joseph Parochial School in 1949 in Renovo.

Veronica worked at many businesses; Maxwell Furniture Store and Funeral Home, Bro-Dart, Sylvania Montoursville Photoflash Division, Sylvania Equipment Development Montoursville, Sylvania Special Tube Division Williamsport, Litton Industries Williamsport. She also held jobs as a bookkeeper, Production and Inventory Control Coordinator, and Payroll Clerk.

During Veronica and Ed’s last years, they were blessed to be surrounded and cared for by many wonderful caretakers at the facilities they resided at, along with their loving nieces, Christine Shimp and Debbie Melaro-Brandenstein.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held later in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions be made in Ronnie’s name to a charity of your choice.
