LOCK HAVEN — On the last Saturday of April, members of the local Tai Chi Club participated in the World Tai Chi and Qigong Day.

The club has participated in this special day for the past three years. The purpose of this event is to share the benefits of practicing Tai Chi and QiGong.

The group enjoyed the fact that hundreds of clubs in at least 80 countries around the world all presented their forms at 10 a.m. local time from New Zealand to Hawaii. Thus, creating a wave of personal energy and intention for world peace and health.

The motto embraced by every club is “One World, One Breath,” indicating a focus on global togetherness and harmony. This wave not only enriches the participants but is broadcast to all the people of the world.

Bill Douglas, a recognized Master teacher, initiated this event in 1999 and has been shared globally ever since.

Tai chi is often referred to as “moving meditation.” However, it does take practice until the meditative benefit is achieved.

Local beginner classes are offered at the STEP Senior Center here in Lock Haven.

The Harvard Health Publications refer to Tai Chi as “moving medication” due to the many proven health benefits of the practice.
