Bears officially eliminated from playoff contention

There will be no playoff football for the Chicago Bears this season. The Bears were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday afternoon following the Washington Commanders 20-19 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

The Bears (4-9) needed help from a lot of different teams to stay alive, starting with the Saints getting a win. Instead, Chicago will be staying home from the postseason for the fourth season in a row as they have plenty of questions to answer heading into the offseason.

At this point in the season, missing the playoffs isn’t a surprise. The Bears have lost seven games in a row after starting 4-2. Ironically, the skid began when the Commanders defeated the Bears 15-12 on the infamous last-second Hail Mary. Since then, Chicago has found unique ways to lose, which eventually led to multiple staff changes, including the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus.

With nothing to play for in the standings, the development of Chicago’s prized rookie quarterback, Caleb Williams, takes priority for these final four games. We’ll see how he and the team respond on Monday night when they take on the Minnesota Vikings as they hope to play spoiler.
