Texoma FC hosts players from around the world during combine, including hometown star
SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – It’s combine time at Texoma FC.
Top Division 1 college athletes and semi-professional and professional players from around the country — and the world — came to Texoma on an invite-only basis to play for a spot on the team.
But, that wasn’t the only special part of Sunday evening’s event.
“Today is a bit of an interesting day,” Texoma FC Sporting Director and Head Coach Adrian Forbes said. “A lot of people would look at this and say it’s all about the combine, but today’s much larger than that.”
Tickets for the game didn’t cost money.
To get in, all it cost was a simple donation: toys, stuffed animals, soccer gear, and much more filled the bin near the stadium entrance.
“We want to be able to give back to others,” Forbes said. “We want to be able to provide for others.”
And that starts with young Leo.
He’s already battling leukemia, so the coaches felt he shouldn’t have to fight for his spot on the team.
“We at Texoma FC thought it would be a good idea to give him a one day contract, so he’s here today being a part of what we’re doing,” Forbes said.
The rising stars of professional soccer were making a name for themselves, while young Leo was making memories that will last a lifetime.
“The game is what the game is, but life is far bigger than that,” Forbs said. “That’s something that everyone here at Texoma FC is gonna pride themselves on.”
