Canadian Pacific Holiday Train visits Fort McCoy
Festive holiday train, the 2024 Canadian Pacific Holiday Train, travels through the U.S. and Canada, and made its way through Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
Wisconsin residents are expected to travel in record numbers during the Christmas season this year, according to a new report from AAA.
More than 2.39 million Wisconsinites are predicted to travel 50 miles or more from home, according to AAA estimates. That’s more than 76,000 more travelers than last year, the previous record high.
More than 2.1 million Wisconsinites are estimated to travel via car, which is about 61,000 more drivers than last year. According to AAA, about 90% of holiday travelers will drive to their destination.
“Travelers should expect the roads, airports and cruise terminals to be more crowded than normal,” said Debbie Haas, vice president of travel for AAA in a statement. “So, finalize your travel plans now and give yourself extra time to get to your destination. We also suggest travel insurance, which provides assistance in the event winter weather or something unexpected interferes with your plans.”
Across the country, AAA is predicting more than 3 million more travelers than last year, with an estimated total 119.3 million people traveling 50 miles or more this holiday season.
Why are more people traveling this Christmas compared to last year?
More Wisconsinites are traveling as inflation continues to moderate, according to AAA. “Strong employment continues to drive rising wages and with inflation leveling off, consumers are expected to spend nearly 5% more than last year as incomes rise at a similar level,” according to the report.
Additionally, economic growth is also steady, as GDP growth is projected to be at 2% at the end of this year, compared to last year.
