Chicopee officials vote to approve new truck stop, travel center

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – The Chicopee City Council voted Tuesday to approve a truck stop and travel center on Burnett Road, despite calls to postpone the vote.

Officials say there were calls for the vote to be postponed after an injunction was filed by an attorney claiming he was not allowed to speak at Monday night’s subcommittee meeting on the topic.

On Monday, Chicopee residents voiced their concerns about the creation of a nearly eight-acre travel center on Burnett Road near the Mass. Pike.

Tuesday’s vote was approved 10-3 and the Pilot travel center will include a 16 pump gas station, a seven position refueling area for tractor trailer trucks, a Wendy’s restaurant, and other amenities for truckers.
