AAA predicts Sunday will be busiest day for travel
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Flights remained on time Thursday at northeast Wisconsin’s main airports despite the snowstorm.
It’s good news as holiday travel is going into high gear.
AAA says a record 121,000 Wisconsin residents will be flying to their holiday destinations this year.
They predict Sunday will be the busiest travel day during the holidays both for flying and driving.
This is due to Christmas landing in the middle of the week as well as the Green Bay Packers home game on Monday night, which will bring more people through Austin Straubel International Airport.
With bigger crowds expected, AAA urges you to plan ahead and download your airline’s app to keep up to date on your flight and weather status.
“Well it’s important to know, you know weather can impact your air travel even if it’s not snowing where you’re taking off from…even if it’s not snowing where you’re going. Any sort of major storm system, anywhere in the country can really have a ripple effect,” says Nick Jarmusz, the director of public affairs for AAA Wisconsin.
During this busy holiday travel time, the FAA highly recommends you arrive at least one-and-a-half to two hours before your flight and check the TSA’s website to see what you aren’t allowed to bring through security, including wrapped Christmas gifts.
