Lakota Nation Invitational brings more than just sports

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Lakota Nation Invitational is on its third day and many spent it viewing the art at the annual LNI Art Show.

More than 950 art pieces from over 20 schools across South Dakota have their art on display. Students in middle and high school make submissions.

Those attending the LNI can stop by the art show and vote for their favorite piece to win the People’s Choice Award. Other awards include the Unity Award and Best of Show.

Madonna Crow Eagle is the co-coordinator of the art show, and she said the show gives students another opportunity to be highlighted besides athletics.

“They’re not into sports or anything. This is how they relieve their stress, their anxiety and their passion. Why not showcase that out for them? Why not showcase that we can be proud of them for what they do,” Crow Eagle said.

Crow Eagle added she can never pick a favorite piece. She says she’s always impressed by the work of the students.
