HIGHLIGHTS: Boys conference basketball heats up, Storm win in shutout fashion
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – On the final Friday before Christmas break, high school sports teams around the area got contests in. In high school boys basketball, several conference games took place while on the ice the Central Wisconsin Storm won big on the road.
First, in basketball, the Marshfield boys picked up a solid road win at Wausau East 77-65. The Tigers built a double-digit first-half lead before carrying out the win second half. The Tigers were aided by the sharp-shooting of senior leader Brooks Hinson in the win. The Tigers move to 3-2 with the win. They are next in action at a tournament next week in Orlando. For Wausau East, it’s their first loss of the season, now 7-1. They’ll play at the Omro Holiday Tournament next week.
Also in the Valley, Wausau West took down Wisconsin Rapids 60-15. The Warriors’ defense set the tone early, racing out to an early 11-0 lead, making it too tough for Rapids to come back. West is now 5-1 on the season. Their next game is on Jan. 7 against D.C. Everest. Rapids falls to 0-6. The Red Raiders will play in a holiday tournament next week.
In the Marawood, Stratford picked up a nice road conference victory, beating Edgar 52-40. The Tigers spread the ball around through several players in the double-digit win. Stratford is now 5-1 on the season. They will host a holiday tournament next week. As for Edgar, they drop to 2-4. They will play next on Monday at Auburndale.
On the ice, the Central Wisconsin Storm kept up their fast start to the season, beating the CFM Sabers 5-0. Sophie Bohland and Gabi Heuser got the scoring started for the Storm and just didn’t stop. The Storm play again on Saturday against Eau Claire Area.
