Fromis_9 to release farewell single before leaving Pledis Entertainment
By Pyo Kyung-min
K-pop girl group fromis_9 will bid farewell to fans with a special single, “from,” released Monday, marking the end of their tenure with Pledis Entertainment as their contracts expire on Dec. 31.
The single, as described by Pledis through an official release, Monday, is “a fan song expressing the members’ gratitude to their fandom, flover, for years of support.” Member Hayoung contributed to composing the track, while all eight members — Saerom, Hayoung, Jiwon, Jisun, Seoyeon, Chaeyoung, Nagyung and Jiheon — collaborated on the lyrics.
“We poured our hearts into writing this song like a letter for flover,” the group members said through the release. “We hope our sincerity reaches you and warms your hearts this winter. May this song blend seamlessly into your memories, bringing smiles and joy wherever you are.”
Debuting in 2018, fromis_9 gained popularity with its diverse musical offerings, including hits like “DM,” “Stay This Way” and “#menow” receiving enthusiastic responses from its male-dominated fandom.
The group’s most recent album, “Supersonic” in August, marked a milestone for the group, receiving critical acclaim both in Korea and abroad. The album’s eponymous title track was included in several best K-pop songs of 2024 lists, as announced by music publications Billboard, PopMatters, NME and Dazed.
The upcoming single is set to be the group’s final release under Pledis, a subsidiary under HYBE Labels which also manages K-pop acts Seventeen and TWS. The agency had previously announced on Nov. 29 that the company had reached “a mutual agreement with the members to end their contracts,” signaling an end to the group’s activities under the label.
As announced by Pledis, fromis_9 will fulfill their remaining schedules through the end of this year before their official contract expiration. The members’ future plans have not yet been revealed.
