Habanero on Ludlow closes after 25 years of business in Clifton

A staple Clifton restaurant has closed after 25 years.

The last day of operations at Habanero on Ludlow was Saturday, according to a sign posted in the front window of the Latin restaurant at 358 Ludlow Ave. The message says they made the difficult decision to not renew the lease for the restaurant, adding that the landlord made great efforts to keep Habanero a part of Clifton.

“The past 25 years have been unbelievably wonderful and fantastic, exceeding my wildest dreams when I opened in 1999,” the unsigned message reads. “I cannot begin to express my heartfelt gratification and thanks to all our customers and crew members who have made us so successful.”

Habanero has been serving the Gaslight District since 1999. The local favorite was known for its made-to-order and customizable tacos, burritos and quesadillas, in addition to other Latin fare.

The Enquirer has attempted to reach the restaurant but did not get an immediate response.
