Kasey Hogg finishes 7th in first World Cup duals competition – Park Record
Parkite mogulist Kasey Hogg continued what appears to be a breakout season Saturday in Bakuriani, Georgia, finishing seventh in the first World Cup duals competition of the season.
Hogg posted a score of six points, falling in the quarterfinals round.
After about a foot of snow Thursday, Hogg and the field were treated to fantastic, deep conditions.
Hogg’s U.S. teammate Jaelin Kauf walked away with the women’s title. Swede Walter Wallberg took home the title on the men’s side.
Fellow Parkite Charlie Mickel was the highest-placing local finisher on the men’s side, coming in 18th place.
“I was excited about the finish for the first duals competition of the season,” said Hogg. “It was exciting to be back in a duals mentality and push my skiing and speed.”
The top-10 finish was the 21 year old’s second of the season in four events, finishing 11th in the other two.
Hogg sits in ninth place in the world. She finished the 2023-24 season ranked 13th.
Hogg’s duals results have traditionally been slightly better than her solo ones during her four-year career.
“It definitely felt different than any singles competition,” added Hogg. “Though the winner isn’t always the faster one, it’s definitely something each competitor is striving for.”
Hogg believes she can improve her speed in time for the next duals competition.
The moguls field will enjoy a nice month-plus long holiday break before returning to action in the Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, World Cup. Waterville Valley will hold both solo and dual moguls competitions. Waterville is one of two U.S. stops on the circuit, including Deer Valley in early-February.
Hogg will spend the holiday break skiing with family and friends over at Deer Valley. While she’ll try to escape moguls as much as she can, she said she enjoys the natural moguls at the resort.
“I am hoping to improve on my results by continuing to ski aggressively,” said Hogg on the remainder of the season. “For the next competitions, I also want to improve my jump package.”
Including Waterville Valley, there are six more Cups and a year-end World Championships on the moguls calendar. Hogg will be competing in every remaining event.
Last year at her home Deer Valley Cup, she finished eighth in duals and sixth in solo moguls. She also won both competitions at the Deer Valley Nor-Am Cup.
