AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Reportedly Features Up To 3.1 GHz Boost Clock And Up To 70W Higher TBP On Custom Editions
The custom Radeon RX 9070 XT cards are expected to reach even higher frequencies than 3.1 GHz and can consume over 300W.
AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU Rumored To Come With Great Overclocking Capabilities with TBP Reaching as High as 330W
More leaks are confirming that the Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU will be a power-hungrier card, but it might be stronger than we thought. While there doesn’t seem to be a change in core specifications, the card can exceed its default clocks and power consumption on the AIB editions.
As per the latest info from the leaker “zhangzhonghao” (via @9550pro), the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT will feature anywhere from 3.0-3.1 GHz of boost clock on the reference edition. AIBs are expected to surpass this number since an increase in TBP is also possible. He says that the custom RX 9070 XT editions from AMD’s board partners can bring a TBP of up to 330W, which is 70W higher than the reference edition.
The reference edition was already near to the power consumption of the RTX 4070 Ti and Super editions, but with 330W, it is going to exceed the TBP of the RTX 5070 Ti GPU. However, the performance seems to be better than the RTX 4070 GPUs if the leaks are true. The leaker says that the RX 9070 XT is pretty close to the RTX 4080 in select gaming titles and is within a 5% margin.
This is far better than the Time Spy score it yielded in the early testing, which indicated slightly better performance than the RX 7900 GRE. Still, nothing is confirmed, as we don’t know the games in which it was tested against the RTX 4080 and there is no screenshot or graph to prove the same. Based on the reliability of the leaker, it could come true and that would make it an attractive choice, particularly at $600-$649, which is the rumored price for the card.
The RX 9070 XT is supposedly the flagship edition based on the RDNA 4 architecture, featuring 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM on a 256-bit bus and the full Navi 48 GPU die. There are probably more GPUs to use the same, but the cutdown Navi 48 GPU will be priced lower. Then there is the Navi 44, powering the lower-end budget and some lower mid-range cards. More will be unveiled in the coming days before we reach the official launch, which is CES 2025.
