Well the holiday season is certainly here, which means it is shopping mayhem, but also an opportunity to find some really good deals, with some of the best finds happening right after the big holidays.

Yes, the jammed department stores, malls, and of course constant online shopping are all symbols of the holiday season. A season that if you’re savvy, can bring a lot of savings.

Shikha Jain, a partner with Simon Kutcher, recommends to “set your budget”, noting that it is very easy to want to shop impulsively and go more with the flow. However, by having a clear idea of what you’re going to spend, your wallet will surely benefit.

One way to do this is buying basic and generic items like bows or gift wrap. Furthermore, Jain recommends being mindful of how you pay, like those buy now, pay later type deals may sound good; however, they usually have plenty of strings attached.

Jain says “the best advice would be to look for alternatives and really do some comparison shopping. So, look for coupons. If you really got your heart set on an item, browse on different websites”.

This year, 2024, Simon Kutcher expects the average American consumer will spend roughly $1020 on holiday shopping. This is a roughly 8% increase over the previous year; however, the manner in which we shop is evolving.

A growing number of namely Gen Z sales are taking place on Tik Tok shop. Overall, Gen Z spending is expected to be up about 21% year over year, with a growing ‘doom spending’ trend.

Jain defines ‘doom spending’, as using retail therapy as a coping mechanism because they feel pessimistic about the future.

Well, no matter if you’re doom spending or just simply running to the local department store, there is savings potential around every corner.
