Chester Bowl provides lessons for winter sports accessibility
DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) — Winter is here, and it’s time for fun on the slopes.
But before that can happen, families like the Jens need to get some practice, to deal with the ups and the downs of winter sports.
“We saw this opportunity that Chester provides and jumped on it, our little 7-year-old has really enjoyed the experience, and it’s an affordable way to get families on the hill in an environment that’s gotten ever increasingly expensive,” snowboarder Lucas Jens said.
Chester Bowl is offering free skiing and snowboarding lessons for those with a season or day pass until Dec. 30.
It applies to all ages from kids to adults as Lucas’ wife is learning to ski right next to their boy.
” I’m probably going to need to spend a little more time on the mountain, but I did do kind of a trick,” Charlie Jens said.
It’s not just free skiing and snowboarding lessons for those at Chester Bowl. They also have seasonal equipment that can be rented for the entire season. And you don’t have to use it just at Chester. You can use it anywhere to make sure you have access to skiing and snowboarding in any area.
“So many people I know got their start here at Chester Bowl and that’s what really created their love of skiing and their either skiing at Spirit, Mont du Lac, or coming back here to Chester, it’s such a great place and a great community,” Chester Bowl instructor Samantha Laders said.
If you want to strap in and learn, lessons run from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until the 30th.
“I can share that love of skiing that I got here to other kids, and I hope that Chester Bowl will one day be the place to them that it is to me where it just feels like home,” Laders said.
Soon you could be trading in the training hill to the rush of the chair lift and speed of the big hill.
“It’s just fun to do things as a family and this provides that opportunity and it’s just all smiles,” Jens said.
Weekend sessions will also involve small group lessons starting on Saturdays and Sundays in January (Jan. 4 -5, 11-12, 18-19, 25-26), as well as providing Saturday lessons on Feb. 1 and 8.
