How will winter storms affect travel at Tampa International Airport?

More than a quarter of flights scheduled to depart from Tampa International Airport were delayed or cancelled early Monday afternoon amid freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall across the Northeast and Midwest.

Of 546 flights scheduled today, 117 were delayed and 22 were cancelled as of 12:30 p.m., according to the airport’s website.

The delay count is so far less severe than the worst days of holiday travel late last year. On Dec. 28, more than 50% of flights were delayed at Tampa International.

At St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, no inbound or outbound delays or cancellations were recorded Monday morning, per the airport’s website.

Across the United States, flight cancellations are up compared to prior days. Almost 1,800 flights have been cancelled, according to a tracking service called FlightAware.

The two U.S. airports with the most cancellations are in the Washington, D.C. area, where inches of snow began piling up early in the morning. At Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, 64% of Monday flights have been cancelled.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
