Sticking up for a North Country business

TOWN OF POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) – Potsdam’s town supervisor says he plans to reach out to U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer’s office to stick up for a north country business.

This is because Potsdam Specialty Paper applied and qualified for a $2 million Small Business Administration loan to help it recover from August flooding that severely damaged the plant’s electrical system.

However, the business is getting only $490,000.

Town Supervisor Marty Miller hopes to find out more and possibly get Sen. Schumer (D. – NY) to help.

“If they didn’t need that funding, they wouldn’t have asked for it all because you know they are going to be paying it back. They need to make sure this plant is going to be stable for next year and years to come,” said Miller.

the CEO of Potsdam Specialty Paper says there was no explanation as to why the loan it got is now significantly less than what it was supposed to be. However, the business is still grateful for what the SBA is offering.
