Greenville license plate agency shuttered, locals left with questions & extra travel
The day after the closure of a License Plate Agency in Greenville, people were still coming to the door, unaware it was locked indefinitely.
It was a bittersweet day for the people here at the license plate agency on Stantonsburg Road as they packed up their belongings and left the office for the last time.
For people who came to the door hoping to do business today… they had questions.
Commission Contractor James Locks tells us he signed a temporary contract for the agency back in 2020…four years later the contract has been terminated.
Division of Motor Services Communications Manager Marty Homan says they started looking for a permanent replacement and on April 2nd, Locks was notified about his termination.
Not only is Locks being replaced, but all of the employees previously working at the License Plate Agency on Stantonsburg Road were under the same contract.
That is the extent of being…I guess your contract being terminated…you are put in a predicament of unemployment, it’s sad…it’s very sad.
According to Homan, Locks’ replacement will be coming from the other DMV location on North Creek Drive sometime in the near future.
The DMV located on North Creek Drive is 10 miles away from the agency…the next nearest location is in Farmville on North Main Street…11 miles away.
Locks says his agency was able to offer more titling services than the DMV on North Creek Drive now, he’s worried residents will be left with more questions than answers.
It’s going to be hard for the people in those surrounding areas to get those services now that we’re closed because the other office in Greenville does not provide that currently but they will be, hopefully, if they decide to bring that back to Greenville.
When we spoke with the representative for the DMV they told us there has not been a set date on when the agency will reopen.
