Savannah’s first public fitness zone opens at Summerside Park
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The City of Savannah’s first public fitness zone is officially opened.
The city celebrated the opening with a ribbon cutting at Summerside Park Saturday. The new state-of-the-art fitness zone has 11 outdoor exercise stations similar to what you’d see in a gym. That includes things like a chest press, lat pulldown, balance board, leg press, and an accessible hand cycle just to name a few. District 5 Alderwoman Estella Shabazz shared that the push for this project, really came from local residents.
“The residents, a lot of adults, a lot of seniors, they wanted something for themselves. It was recommended that fitness zones like this would be very very good for our community,” says Shabazz.
The project also included new signage, walkways, benches, and water fountains. The nearly $103,000 investment was made possible through the Rec Re-imagined Initiative approved by City Council in 2021.
