I was pronounced dead after my brain splattered across street in bike smash

ADAM Elnekaveh had the world at his feet.

Back in 2018, the bodybuilding influencer was preaching to millions of followers and was on the verge of launching his own fitness app.

He was in Taiwan with a friend celebrating the start of a new chapter in his life – but everything changed in the blink of an eye.

A gruesome motorbike accident saw his head cracked wide open and splattered across the sidewalk, gasoline spurting into his brain.

Some of his grey matter was on the road.

“My family was told I would probably remain in a vegetative state,” Adam tells The U.S. Sun. “I was pronounced dead.”

The outlook was beyond bleak and his devastated parents feared the very worst.

There was one person, however, who wasn’t giving up.

“You should always believe in yourself and do the work to make a situation better,” he said. “I wanted to live my life again.”

Thanks to an intoxicating mix of sheer bloody-mindedness, hard work, and incredible mental strength, Adam, who was 28 at the time of the accident, defied all the doctors’ grim predictions.

Today the California native, who was born in New York City to Israeli parents, is a motivational speaker whose book – Rebuilding Adam: The Tragedy – chronicles his nightmare and simply incredible recovery.

I own the fastest bike in the world – its speedier than a formula one car – I know I might die but I embrace the risks

“If you believe in yourself enough, you can come out the other side,” he said.

CRITICAL ERRORS

On that fateful day six years ago, Adam knows grave mistakes were made.

He says he felt “invincible” as an experienced motorcyclist and, to be like the locals, refused to wear a helmet.

Just minutes before the accident which irreparably changed his life forever, cops pulled him over and handed him a $14 ticket before reminding him of the safety issues at play.

Angered at being told what to do, he sped off on his friend’s bike, and soon enough ended up in the street, bloodied and unconscious.

He was transferred to the hospital, where his mom was filmed heartbreakingly pleading with her son to open his eyes during a 10-day coma.

“I didn’t regain any memory until three months after the accident,” he said.

His memory was almost obliterated, friends and family had to help him fill in the blanks. He says those long days and weeks were like a “blur”, yet the nightmare was only just beginning.

PHYSICAL NIGHTMARE

The traumatic brain injury not only initially robbed him of having the ability to walk, but it also left him unable to speak.

“My throat muscles and vocal cords were so weak,” he admitted. “My brain couldn’t think of the words I needed.”

One speech therapist who was working with Adam during the first few months was given a furious short-shrift by his doting father for having the temerity to doubt his son’s ability to recover from such a desperate situation.

“My dad was furious,” he recalled. “He shouted ‘You’re despicable.’ He fought for me.”

Adam needed to battle and grind, something which was natural for such a fitness fanatic who trained like there was no tomorrow.

He was told there was no chance he would ever drive, live on his own or even walk again.

All predictions were smashed out of the ballpark.

Piece by piece, brick by brick, Adam rebuilt his body and mind.

His head – now 15% plastic after surgeons repaired the damage sustained in the crash – began to heal, yet there were still numerous mountains to scale.

The work was endless and yet, despite the incredible, doctor-defying progress made, the realization that life would never be the same was stark.

COMEBACK TRAIL

Yes, he can walk, talk, write books, talk at events all over the country, and get back into the dating scene – “the best places for me to meet women is in the grocery store, bars aren’t good for anymore” – but the reminders of the moment he nearly lost it all will forever remain.

“I used to be the strongest, most able athlete. People looked at me with awe. Now I’m parking my vehicle in a handicapped parking space.

“The left side of my body is still disabled. So I’m limping everywhere I go. My left arm is disabled. It’s just almost hanging off my body. I’m living a constant dream-like state. People that say to me ‘Oh, you’re amazing, you survived, you’re good.’

“I appreciate it but no matter how I take it, I wish I could go to the UPS store and return my body. But I can’t do that.”

Adam, who is working on a second book titled The Awakening – wants as many as the 2.8 million Americans who suffer traumatic brain injuries every year to, no matter what, never give up hope.

” I wrote this book for people that have been through a tragedy in their lives like they’ve had strokes or brain injuries, something which has terrorized their ways of thinking,” he said.

“I want to say to people that no matter what it said about you, no matter what memory you may lose, or what doctors and surgeons and nurses say about your capabilities, you should always believe in yourself.

“I didn’t accept my situation, and neither should you.”
