Jasmine Wong becomes Iolani’s 1st state girls golf champion; Punahou wins team

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii — Jasmine Wong had one last title to win to close her decorated prep golf career.

With an even par 72 on Wednesday, the senior became Iolani School’s first individual champion in the David S. Ishii/HHSAA girls golf championships as she fended off Punahou’s Jessica Lee by a stroke at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.

In the 28 previous editions of the tournament, the Raiders had a team title (2012) but no individual champions.

Wong, who is bound for Gonzaga in the fall, changed that with her 74-72-146, overcoming five other players who shot par or better on Wednesday. Wong signed to play for the Bulldogs in November after winning several HSJGA titles as well as the ILH championships in 2024 and 2023.

Wong had a two-shot cushion going into No. 18 and survived after making bogey on the par-3 hole.

Punahou’s Nicole Ikeda finished with a 2-under 70 at the Klipper for the best score of the tournament; no one finished in the red on Tuesday.

Punahou shot a 13-over 445 over the two days to pick up its state-best 13th girls team title.

The Buffanblu (233-212) made a 21-stroke improvement from Day 1 to 2 to win the team title by 20 strokes over runner-up Mililani. At 4-under on Wednesday, Punahou was the only team to shoot below par on either day. The Buffanblu had three players (Lee, Ikeda, Sydney Fuke) finish in the top five.

Mililani shot a 465 and Moanalua finished third with a 478. Iolani, led by Wong, placed fifth.

Waiakea owns the second-most girls team titles with four.
