Library’s art alcove features textile exhibit
“A Modern Twist on an Ancient Craft,” featuring original works from the local Prairie Fibers Weavers and Spinners Guild, is on display at the Grand Island Public Library through May 28.
The exhibit features a unique blend of handmade textiles of various techniques and styles including hand-dyed tapestry; hand-spun yarn; felting; Fair Isle and Shetland knitting; overshot, twill, and ikat weaving; crochet and more.
An artists’ reception is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the library, 1124 W. Second St.
The display is open during regular library hours, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

CCC’s Gordan to speak at Crane Trust
Ash Gordan, a sustainability professional with Central Community College, will be the featured speaker for Crane Trust’s May Potluck Speaker series.

The program is planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 (note the change of date due to the primary election).
Gordon will speak about capturing wild honey bees. He is a beekeeper and this is his third year taking care of honeybees. He is also an avid gardener, an amateur mycologist, and says he “has a passion for learning about the natural world.”
A potluck meal will precede the film starting at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share if you wish. Drinks, silverware and plates will be provided.

Music Bingo is a cross between Bingo and “Name that Tune” where players work together to identify song names, then mark the song titles off Bingo cards.
Tabitha at Prairie Commons will host Music Bingo from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16. Everyone is invited to this free community event and snacks and prizes will be provided.
