Unique Shopping, Plants Sale, Making Lace: Morris Co. Weekend Events
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Welcome to the weekend, Morris County! If you’re browsing for things to do, Patch has a number of ideas lined up — almost all of them on Saturday, since Mother’s Day is on Sunday.
If you need a last-minute gift, there are several places to stop on Saturday. And, local student bands are having a fundraiser concert on Saturday night, to support a non-profit that helps provide fresh food to families in need.
Admission to these events is free unless otherwise noted. Here are our ideas for things to do around Morris County on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12:
Look for curios and curiosities at the Morristown UMC rummage sale
There are gently-used items of all kinds at this annual sale, which benefits the church’s summer Appalachian Service Project mission trip. There is also a “boutique” room for special treasures. The rummage sale at Morristown United Methodist Church runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Browse dozens of handmade items at a Craft and Maker Fair
This is the spot if you’re looking for an interesting gift idea or something homemade, with jewelry, fashion, crocheted goods, home decor, and more. Runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday inside Rockaway Mall.
Support student bands and philanthropic efforts at “Rock’n the Garden”
Four up-and-coming bands will be performing at this fundraiser in Mendham for The Sharing Project, a student-run nonprofit. The event is Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Celebrate National Public Gardens Day at Macculloch Hall
Macculloch Hall Historical Museum has special presentations, nature scavenger hunts, and art activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, including nature presentations by Eyes of the Wild and The Seeing Eye. Rain or shine.
Pick up a locally-grown plant for Mother’s Day
If you’re reading this early enough, you can head out to where the Garden Club of Mountain Lakes is having their plant sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Rain or shine.
Join the Lost Art Lacers for a Mother’s Day lacemaking demonstration
The Lost Art Lacers of North Jersey is an organization dedicated to preserving the historical art of lacemaking, and will be giving a demonstration. The Morris County Historical Society at Acorn Hall will also have a one-day-only exhibit of antique lace during this event, which runs from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. No registration required.
Have fun, and we wish a happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmothers, partners, and other special women that you are celebrating this weekend!
