Monster Hunter Wilds has a good reason to look at Monster Hunter World when it comes to planning the game’s multiplayer features. Since multiplayer features are nothing new to the Monster Hunter games, it would be more unusual if Monster Hunter Wilds omitted them entirely. That’s not to say that there isn’t room to innovate, though. While there is already an established method of multiplayer hunting, there is also room to add a few more twists to it. Monster Hunter Wilds could end up bringing a new kind of multiplayer gameplay to the series.

The Monster Hunter series is made of excellent PvE multiplayer games, thriving for several reasons. While the monsters in multiplayer hunts are still challenging, the opportunity to collaborate gives players far more options to work with. In addition to providing more tools and weapons to the battle, it also offers plenty of new strategies. A melee player could draw attention away from a player using a bow or bowgun, or multiple players could flank the monster, doubling up on a weak point or providing multiple angles of attack. Going into a hunt with friends never fails to make Monster Hunter an even more exciting experience.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ speculated move towards a more open-world design might lead to several town hub features being cut, but one could be enhanced.

Monster Hunter Wilds Can Add a New Level to the Series’ Multiplayer

Multiplayer is a Major Strength For Monster Hunter

In series tradition, forming parties is the way to play with friends in Monster Hunter. Before heading out into the hunt, players can set up parties and group up with their friends to go on the hunt together. In Monster Hunter World and Rise, there was also an option for players to group up with random players who also happened to be playing and seeking out a mission at the time. There was also World‘s SOS Flare, where players could call for help mid-hunt and allow other players to join and offer their assistance. As Monster Hunter‘s profile grows, so do its multiplayer capabilities.

Monster Hunter Wilds Can Introduce New Multiplayer Options and Events

Monster Hunter Wilds can use these traits as a springboard for its own multiplayer. If the gimmick for Monster Hunter Wilds is as nomadic as it seems, then it could further incentivize collaboration among random players in the community. In addition to bringing back random parties and SOS Flares, there could also be other ways for players to group up with each other. For example, there could be missions where random players group up for a hunt with unique circumstances or special rewards. This would not only be a fun multiplayer addition, but it would also help feed into Monster Hunter Wilds‘ ever-shifting world.

Monster Hunter WIlds Can Include Passive Multiplayer Benefits

There could also be some extra multiplayer features that Monster Hunter Wilds could adopt. For example, if a player’s camp in Monster Hunter Wilds has been set up in an area that another player is traveling through, that could provide additional bonuses. They could potentially rest there for a free heal, or an NPC based on the player in question could assist with a fight that comes too close to their camp. This would give players incentive to set up camps in several different areas of the game’s world, especially if there are rewards for helping out by doing so.

Monster Hunter Wilds could change the way that the series tackles multiplayer mechanics. While the series’ tradition of teaming up with friends is tried and true, some new features in Monster Hunter Wilds could add a lot to the multiplayer experience. From providing new collaborative hunts to passive multiplayer benefits, there are a lot of paths open for the developers to take. Since the Monster Hunter series is so multiplayer-friendly already, it would be no surprise for the series to dive deeper in that direction and make Monster Hunter Wilds‘ multiplayer something special.
