The interior designer who swears by secondhand fashion

An everyday extravagance is . . .
Florals for the office. Josephine Kelly delivers them every fortnight. I love the way the energy of the space changes depending on what she brings. I’m a fan of a huge hydrangea. Juicy [Josephine] brought in the biggest peonies I’ve ever seen recently, and they were fantastic, too, and these things called Buddha’s hand, which look like gnarly lemons. Sometimes she’ll just bring large branches. I’m a fan of it all.

A thing I’m passionate about is . . .
The value of design. COVID and the rise of social media have had such an interesting effect on people’s perception and value of design within the home. People are clued in to the monetary value of a well-designed space in terms of making small areas feel bigger and living more efficiently. They also see the effect of good design on mental health, relaxation and thus overall wellbeing and productivity.

If money was no object, the artist I would collect is . . .
James Turrell. I presume that if money was no object, I’d also be able to have a huge home with multiple spaces just drenched in his brilliant light installations.

When friends pop in, I always have on hand . . .
Champagne. I’m lucky enough to have a nice collection – I love Veuve. I want my friends to keep dropping in so that’s what I serve.

My idea of a good time is . . .
Doing anything with friends. Mainly we love long lunches. We have an ever-growing list of restaurants we want to explore. We went to Bar Copains [in Sydney’s Surry Hills] recently and it was delicious.

But don’t expect me to . . .
Exercise on a Sunday morning.

A film I saw recently and loved was . . .
Dumb Money. I don’t watch a lot of films, but I saw this on the plane back from Paris recently and thought it was a great true story, and really funny. It also reminded me of the time my boyfriend’s best friend convinced me I should short some stocks on Reddit during the pandemic. I lost $300.

The book I read recently and would recommend is . . .
Daisy Jones & the Six. I read it before watching the TV adaptation and adored it.

My failsafe gift is . . .
A Missoni hand towel: cheaper and more memorable than champagne.

My favourite store for buying a gift . . .
The Home & Gifts category on Net-a-Porter.

My favourite gallery is . . .
Studio Gallery Group in Sydney’s Waterloo. I love their range of artists in different professional phases (from emerging to established) and also the range of prices and styles. I often visit to shop for clients.

My favourite piece of furniture is . . .
The Eole Floor Lamp by Pierre Augustin Rose. I love a light, and a dramatically scaled sculpture that’s also a lamp? Yes, please.

A place overseas that I’m impatient to get back to is . . .
The Ionian islands in Greece. We took a boat around there a couple of years ago and it’s honestly heaven. There are the most stunning tavernas dotted throughout; I came back addicted to moussaka.
