Wells College closure means 100+ will lose jobs | Fingerlakes1.com

Over 100 people will lose their jobs as result of the Wells College closure, according to a Workforce Adjustment and Retraining (WARN) notice. The private college, a community cornerstone since 1868, cited inadequate financial resources as the reason for closure, decided by the trustees.

The New York State Department of Labor’s WARN notice revealed that 141 out of 165 employees would be affected, with the closure beginning May 31 and completing by the end of the year. To support staff, the college organized counseling services and virtual information sessions.

Wells College has named Manhattanville University as its preferred teach-out partner, facilitating the transfer process for Wells students. Manhattanville, recently designated as a university, committed to preserving Wells College’s legacy and integrating its name and history into the Manhattanville community.
