World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler looking for 3rd straight win at PGA Championship
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) – World No. 1 ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler won the first major of the season at the Masters and followed it up the next weekend with a win at the RBC Heritage. He took time off for the birth of his first child, but is back at it this week.
The new dad was on the course at Valhalla Tuesday, seeking his third Major Championship, but he was as level-headed as ever.
“I may win a lot of major championships, I may be stuck at two the rest of my career. It doesn’t really concern me in the moment. I’m just trying to prepare as best as possible for this week. At home it was a nice time to reflect a little bit on my career so far and where my life has gone. I married my high school sweetheart and I always wanted to play professional golf and now I’m here. I was sitting there with a newborn in my arms and the green jacket in the closet,” Scheffler said. “It was a pretty special time I think at home. But at the same time, I think the competitiveness in me doesn’t let me reflect too much and I was trying to do my best to get ready to play this week.”
Scheffler says he has been impressed with the fans braving the weather during the practice rounds and with the rain softening the greens and fairways, he anticipates some low rounds for the field as he and many others seek to hoist their first Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday.
He tees off at 2:13 P.M. on Thursday with Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman on the first tee.
