“The world looks better upside down”: U.S. Thunderbirds arrive for the Duluth Air Show

DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) -Thousands of Northlanders will flood the Duluth International Airport as the Duluth Air show returns with the stars of the show — the Thunderbirds.

It’s been two years since the Thunderbirds have performed in Duluth. Pilot Taylor Wright is excited to make his appearance in the Northland for the Duluth Air Show Saturday.

Wright has always loved aircraft, growing up with a military father and the Air Force inspired him to become a pilot.

“The world looks better upside down and then when you’re going supersonic as well it’s always a great time,” said Wright.

His dream, now a reality as a pilot flying with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds for two years.

“Really looking forward to meeting the people here in Duluth and bringing the noise and showing them what we’re capable of in the team,” said Wright.

Hundreds of people will look to the skies this weekend as the Air show returns. Jason Rofe, the Media Relations Manager with the Duluth Air Show says there will be 50,000 people attending the event.

“It’s the largest ticketed event North of the Twin Cities and it has a huge economic impact,” said Rofe. “As well as a community impact, with dollars going back into the volunteer organizations that come and support the Air Show.”

Wright hopes his impact in the Air Show will leave an impact, inspiring the younger generation to the Air Force.

“With the kids molding young minds, just to show them, ‘hey we are normal men and women that joined the Air Force and they can do it as well.’”

Rofe says that the U.S. Thunderbirds and demonstration teams will visit Duluth Public Schools Friday before the show kicks off to the public on Saturday.
