Fells Point business owners get city hall’s support on open container issues

It appears Fells Point business owner Bryan Burkert, who appealed to city hall for help, is getting it

“Mayor Scott did reach out to me,” said Burkert on Friday.

Burkert and other business owners in Fells Point have watched hundreds of people turn the historic streets into a late-night party.

“Since 2020, anyone, any age, can openly possess full bottles of liquor on the street,” said Burkert in an online video posted on social media last week.

Burkert and seven other bar owners also signed a letter to city hall saying “Shootings seem inevitable if this course is not corrected.”

Just before election day, Burkert received a response.

In a second video posted on social media on Friday, Burkert announced, “Commissioner Worley, with the encouragement of Mayor Scott, has committed to resolving the open container issue in Fells Point.”

So far, the police department has not explained how it intends to crack down on the late night crowds but, for now, Burkert is encouraged.

“We’re looking forward to getting back to normal,” said Burkert.
