S.C. attorney general travels to NYC in support of Trump during trial

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson traveled to New York City in support of former President Donald Trump.

Trump has been in the Big Apple for weeks while on trial for allegedly falsifying business records to hide the true nature of a payment made to his attorney Michael Cohen.

The South Carolina attorney general was in New York on Monday and said on X, formerly known as Twitter, “President Trump is being prosecuted because of who he is and not for anything he has done.”

Wilson’s office told WIS News 10 the attorney general’s campaign covered the costs associated with his travels.

According to the Associated Press, Trump was indicted on March 30, 2023. The prosecution alleges Trump reimbursed Cohen for a payment he made to adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal. The payments were allegedly made to prevent the women from releasing stories that would damage Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016.

The former president is facing four criminal cases in other states including Georgia, Washington, D.C. and Florida.

Trump is the first former president to face criminal charges.
