Cast your votes for Upstate high school boys athlete of the week

Here are the finalists for Upstate high school boys athlete of the week from May 13-19. Voting will end at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Last week’s fan favorite was Riverside soccer player Marcus Smith.

Grayson Gibbons, Southside Christian: Gibbons defended his Class A track and field state championships in the 800 meters, 1600 meters (and the 3200 meters.

Ian Johnson, Southside: Johnson won the 100 meters and the 200 meters at the Class AAA track and field state championships.

Will Ruth, Dorman: Ruth took medalist honors at the Class AAAAA golf state championship with a 140 and won with a birdie on the third playoff hole.

Dawson Szabo, Blue Ridge: Szabo won medalist honors at the Class AAA state tournament with a 140 to win by three shots.

Nelson Vaughan, Southside Christian: Vaughan pitched six shutout innings with 10 strikeouts and also went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs as Southside Christian beat Christ Church, 10-0, for the Class A Upper State championship.

Braden Williams, Powdersville: Williams was 3-for-3 with a home run and drove in five as Powdersville beat Blue Ridge, 12-2, in the Upper State championship game.
