A&M track & field travels to Arkansas for the NCAA West First Round

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark – The Texas A&M track & field team continues its postseason campaign as it travels to the home of the Razorbacks for the NCAA West First Round May 22-25 at John McDonnell Field.

The Aggies head to Arkansas with NCAA Championship selection spots on the line, as 49 Texas A&M student athletes look to finish in the top-12 of their respective events to book their ticket to Eugene, Oregon, for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Last season A&M secured 17 individual and four relay tickets to the outdoor championships, with 11 on the women’s side and 10 on the men’s. Heading into this year’s NCAA West First Round, the Aggies have 25 top-50 marks on the women’s side, and another 21 on the men’s.

Three members of the Maroon & White boast national-leading marks leading into the penultimate meet of the season. Timara Chapman paces the heptathlon with 6,219 points set at the 44 Farms Team Invitational, Lamara Distin cleared 1.96m/6-5 also at the 44 Farms Team Invitational to lead the NCAA, while Sam Whitmarsh put the world on notice with a 1:44.46 in the 800m at the battle on the Bayou.

The Aggies are carrying momentum into the meet from the SEC Outdoor Championships, where the team secured 10 medals including five gold, two silver and three bronze. The five title winners were Lianna Davidson (javelin), Heather Abadie (pole vault), Chapman (heptathlon), Whitmarsh (800m) and Victor Kibiego (3,000m steeplechase).
