Memorial Day weekend travel eased with construction rollback

The Michigan Department of Transportation is suspending work and lifting traffic restrictions to ease travel delays for Memorial Day weekend travelers  starting at 3 p.m. Friday, May 24 and ending at 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 28 with 85 out of 154 projects having lane restrictions removed.  Some equipment and traffic configurations will remain even in areas where projects are suspended.

Area projects that will continue include:

18 Mile Road in Clinton Township

18 Mile Road between Hayes Road and Garfield Road. 18 Mile Road  will remain open to one-way traffic between Hayes Road and Garfield Road and two-way traffic will be maintained for work east of Garfield Road during construction operations. A posted detour will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.

23 Mile Road

23 Mile Road between CN Railroad and Gratiot Avenue in Chesterfield Township. Road will remain open to through traffic with one lane open in each direction with turning movement restrictions, lane closures and flagging operations when necessary in place during construction operations. Project is reconstruction of the existing asphalt  road to a five lane concrete road, storm sewer construction CN railroad grade crossing reconstruction, utility relocations, and restoration work. Chesterfield Road at 23 Mile Road will be closed. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes. Project duration through August.

25 Mile Road

25 Mile Road between Mound Road  and Van Dyke Avenue over the Lawson Drain in Shelby Township. There will be intermittent lane closures to construct a new pedestrian bridge on the north side of 25 Mile Road. The road will remain open during construction operations. Project duration through June.

33 Mile Road in Richmond and Richmond Township

33 Mile Road between Lowe Plank Road and North Main Street (M-19). Eastbound 33 Mile Road will be closed during the first stage of construction operations. Westbound 33 Mile Road will be closed during the second stage of construction operations. A posted detour will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes. Project consists of preventative maintenance. Project duration through July.

Dequindre Road, Shelby Twp.

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) is continuing to work on the second phase of infrastructure improvements in the area of Dequindre Road between Hamlin Road and Avon Road and Dequindre Road between 23 Mile Road and 24 Mile Road. Drivers are encouraged to follow the posted detours and seek alternate routes when possible. Project consists of installation of new 96-inch water transmission main and is part of GLWA project. Project duration through December.
