Local school holds tortoise race on World Turtle Day
May 23rd is World Turtle Day and today (Thursday), and Glenwood school hosted a tortoise race in honor of the occasion for the school.
It’s their second year hosting this event and partnering up with snook’s wings & things.
There were a variety of tortoises that competed in the race: from the schools, snook’s wings & things, as well as the Princeton public library.
We got a chance to speak with the owner of snook’s wings & things and he shared what he feels the kids learned from the event today.
“To learn that not something that they learn is, you know, having fun, they get education about the animals, how to take care of them, how long they live. You know… what they eat, what the diet requirements are. We enjoy this doing this activity every year. We enjoy being a big part of the schools, the school system and I would like to say, happy tortoise day.”
The winner from this year’s World Turtle Day race was Tiny the turtle from Snooks’ Wings & Things.
The school does hope they can continue this tradition next year.
