The Wildcats improved to 15-0 while the Clippers fell to 4-11.

Lindsay Rivers added two hits and two RBI for York. Kortes also earned the pitching win in relief, throwing 4 2/3 hitless innings with 13 strikeouts.

Hanscom and Brody Gullison each doubled for York, while Jacobsohn had two singles. Jack Joyce went the distance on the mound, allowing two hits, no earned runs and  no walks while striking out nine.

FOOTBALL

NFL: The Washington Commanders said Monday they were made aware of a lawsuit filed in civil court last week against kicker Brandon McManus.

A spokesperson said the team is looking into the matter and has spoken with McManus’ agent and the NFL office. ESPN reported two women are suing McManus for sexually assaulting them during a charter flight to London last year when he was playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Citing court documents that have not yet been posted on Duval County’s public records database, ESPN reports the women, identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, are accusing McManus of rubbing and grinding against them during the flight and the Jaguars of failing to supervise him and create a safe environment for staff serving the team. They are seeking more than $1 million and asking for a jury trial, according to ESPN.

HOCKEY

NHL: The Seattle Kraken are expected to name Dan Bylsma as their coach, according to a person with knowledge of the choice, putting the 2009 Stanley Cup winner in Pittsburgh back in charge of an NHL team for the first time since 2017.

The Kraken scheduled a “special announcement” news conference for Tuesday, after Sportsnet first reported the decision. Bylsma has spent the past two seasons as the head coach of the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the American Hockey League, the top affiliate of the Kraken, and has them back in the Calder Cup semifinals.

AUTO RACING

FATAL ACCIDENT: Police say a Michigan woman was killed when an out-of-control vehicle slammed into her during a drag-racing event in Oceana County, Michigan, but she was able to push her 2-year-old daughter to safety in the seconds before the crash.

The crash happened Sunday at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes in western Oceana County, about 270 miles (430 kilometers) northwest of Detroit, MLive.com reported.

Police said the driver of a modified Jeep CJ lost control, veered off the racing strip toward the crowd and hit another vehicle, causing that vehicle to strike 33-year-old spectator Kadie Price of Pierson.

Price pushed her 2-year-old daughter to safety just before she was hit, sparing the girl serious injury or worse, police said.

COLLEGES

MEN’S LACROSSE: Chris Kavanagh scored five goals, his brother Pat had six assists and top-seeded Notre Dame (16-1) captured its second straight NCAA men’s lacrosse championship with a 15-5 win over Maryland (11-6) on Monday.

SOCCER

PREMIER LEAGUE: Unai Emery signed a new contract with Aston Villa on Monday that keeps him at the Premier League club until 2029.

Emery took charge in October 2022 with Villa just three points above the relegation zone.

This season, he guided the club to a fourth-place finish and qualification for the Champions League.
