Rainbow Six Siege Unveils a Monthly Subscription Service, Sparking Literal Boos

Most long-running live service games eventually try to test the waters with a subscription service, even if the game was really set up for that initially. GTA Online did it, Fallout 76 did it, and now, it seems Rainbow Six Siege is doing it. For $10 a month, you can purchase an “R6 Membership,” which will get you access to all premium battle passes with 10 levels unlocked, time-limited legendary items, and more. You can check out the full rundown, below.

“Unlock the ultimate Rainbow Six Siege experience with the R6 Membership! This offer delivers an exclusive drop of content every month, including a time-limited Legendary item (sometimes animated for extra flair), an Epic operator bundle, full access to the premium Battle Pass, 10x Battle levels, and a Bravo pack totaling over 4500 credits of value monthly.”

Reward Delivery Schedule:

  • Upon enrolling you get: Instant Battle Pass access, 10 Battle levels, and 1 Bravo pack
  • Then get a new cosmetic drop containing 1 Legendary item and 1 Epic bundle on the 28th of each month (first drop begins June 28th)
  • On your monthly renewal date, you’ll receive another 10 Battle levels and 1 Bravo pack.

Unsurprisingly, this R6 Membership, which isn’t particularly generous compared to some other live service subscriptions, has not been all that well received. Perhaps most embarrassing, during the Blast R6 Major Manchester 2024 esports event, an announcement video for the R6 Membership was played, inciting widespread boos.

Despite the booing, there’s still a pretty good chance people sign up and the R6 Membership becomes a quiet success for Ubisoft. Publishers don’t do this kind of stuff for no reason. Of course, usual seasonal updates for Rainbow Six Siege will also be continuing, with Year 9, Season 2, “Operation New Blood” coming up. This season will see Ubisoft Montreal begin the process of remastering individual Operators, starting with the OG, Striker.

Rainbow Six Siege can be played on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. You’ll be able to sign up for an R6 Membership starting June 11 and Y9S2 should kick off around the same time.
