Mandeville City Council clerk takes job with Parish Council

Kristine Scherer, who served as clerk of the Mandeville Council for nearly a decade, has taken a position as an assistant council administrator with the St. Tammany Parish government.

Scherer, who lives in Mandeville, is set to begin working with parish government on June 3, filling an open position as one of three assistant council administrators. The administrators fulfill a myriad of administrative duties for the 14-member Parish Council.

“It was a great opportunity to move up into parish government and I couldn’t turn it down,” she said.

Scherer began her career with the Mandeville government in 2005, initially working as a contract employee through FEMA. She was eventually hired on as a full-time city employee in the planning department and later served as clerk of the city court.

The Mandeville City Council named her clerk of the council in 2015. She is a New Orleans native and graduate of Dominican High School and the University of New Orleans.

In her former position, Scherer served as clerk for all five of Mandeville’s City Council members. The council clerk prepares ordinances, resolutions, minutes and agendas for all regular and special meetings of the council.

The clerk also posts public records on the city’s website and promotes communication between the council and the public, as well as the council and the city administration.

“I loved working for the council,” she said. “But there was no way to go up from the clerk position (in Mandeville) and this parish position was a natural move.”

Mandeville City Council member Rick Danielson, who was council chairman when Scherer was formally appointed clerk in 2015, described her as a loyal public employee who “bent over backwards to help anyone and everyone.”

Mandeville officials have not yet named a replacement for Scherer.
