North Charleston wants to foster small business growth with new department
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The City of North Charleston is shifting focus to support growth for small businesses that fuel the North Charleston economy.
The Small Business Enterprise Department will give those businesses access to resources they have never had before.
City leaders say the department will support the economic field, which has been a backbone for the city. After hearing feedback from the community that the field was being underserved, city leaders felt it needed to create a connection.
Area businesses will be able to connect with the city for guidance, funding resources, educational programs and networking opportunities.
Department leader Frank Ancrum says he has known business through his own experiences and family ties. He says it is something you cannot always do on your own, and this is the opportunity to gain connections.
“It can be an emotional roller coaster,” Ancrum says. “You have families that are depending on small business creation, you have families depending on whether they’re going to get the check, whether they did this properly.”
Those interested in learning more about the opportunities offered can contact the department directly by calling 843-740-2540 or via email at fancrum@northcharleston.org.
