Belhaven softball drops game two in College World Series

MARSHALL, Texas (WLBT) – Following an opening round win against Case Western Reserve in the Division-III College World Series, the Blazers faced the hosts, 2-seed East Texas Baptist, in the winner’s bracket.

In the first inning, Allie Gordon started the scoring with a home run to left field, her second home run on the day.

The Tigers took the lead with a two-run third inning, but the Blazers tied things up in the bottom of the frame on an error by third baseman Tauryn Cummings.

In the fourth, the Tigers once again took the lead. With one out, Emma Bell doubled, and Ava Rodriguez scored her with a single. That would prove to be the winning run, as Madalyn Melton, who came in to pitch in relief just three batters into the game, allowed just one hit and one unearned run in 6.2 innings.

The Blazers will face elimination Saturday, facing 8-seed Tufts University at 11:00 a.m. CT.
