Man threatened Waco business employees with baseball bat, walked out with tip jar: affidavit

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Aaron Lang Jr., 57, threatened employees at a Waco business with an aluminum baseball bat before walking out with a tip jar, an arrest warrant states.

Lang is charged with aggravated robbery and possession of a controlled substance, online jail records show. At the time of his arrest, Lang was wanted on a warrant for theft under $100, records show.

On May 31, police were called to the business in the 700 block of Elm Avenue and learned a shirtless Lang walked inside and grabbed the tip jar, the warrant states.

When an employee attempted to wrestle the tip jar away from Lang, the accused robber pulled out the baseball bat and struck the business counter with it, police wrote in the document.

As he was walking away with the tip jar, Lang was swinging the baseball bat while warning those near him, “nobody move, do not do anything,” the warrant alleges.

Police wrote in the warrant that the aluminum bat is considered a deadly weapon and Lang “intentionally displayed a deadly weapon while depriving the business of its property.”

Officers investigating the robbery set up a perimeter and eventually located Lang and the stolen tip money. As he was being searched by jailers, a small plastic bag fell out of Lang’s left sock and Lang told the jailers, “let me get that cocaine,” the arrest warrant further alleges.

A white substance found inside the plastic bag was tested and returned a “presumptive positive for cocaine,” the arrest warrant states.

Lang is being held at the McLennan County Jail on a $5,000 bond, per online jail records.
