Indiana baseball alum Andrew Saalfrank suspended for gambling

Andrew Saalfrank of the Arizona Diamondbacks has been suspended for one year by Major League Baseball for gambling.

The 26-year-old left-handed pitcher is an Indiana baseball alum born in Fort Wayne. He went to Heritage High School in Monroeville, Indiana.

Here’s what you should know about Andrew Saalfrank.

Why was Andrew Saalfrank suspended?

According to Major League Baseball, Saalfrank placed a total of $445.87 worth of bets — 28 of them MLB-related, the other a college baseball parlay — on games between Sept. 9, 2021, and March 9, 2022.

Saalfrank did not appear in any of the games on which he bet, the league reported, adding that he also did not bet on any games involving his team.

At the time the bets were placed, Saalfrank would have been recovering from Tommy John surgery.
