Ranking college baseball teams in order of their odds to win Men’s College World Series

Will the Tennessee Volunteers break the curse of the Men’s College World Series’ No. 1 seed?

A top-seeded team has not won the Men’s College World Series (CWS) since Miami (FL) won the title in 1999, but the Vols – this year’s No. 1 seed – are still the betting favorite ahead of the super regionals.

The undisputed champions of the SEC swept their region with three straight wins by six runs or more en route to a fourth straight super regional appearance. They will play Missouri Valley Conference champions and Cinderella team Evansville in the super regional looking for a second consecutive trip to Omaha.

College baseball super regional power rankings: 2024 College World Series odds

1. Tennessee Volunteers (+250)

Tennessee is the top seed in the tournament and has been the betting favorite since before it began. The Vols are undisputed champions of the SEC after winning the regular season and conference tournament titles. They were the only team to reach 50 wins and have not lost a game since falling to Vanderbilt (a team they later defeated) in the SEC tournament on May 22.

Their super regional matchup is against Evansville – the Greenville regional’s bottom seed – so a trip to Omaha should not be difficult for Tennessee to accomplish. From there, they just need to keep doing what they’ve been doing in this tournament: win.

2. Texas A&M Aggies (+350)

The Aggies were one of the best teams in college baseball this season and have started off the tournament strong. Like Tennessee, Texas A&M has yet to lose a game after a 3-0 opening in their regional. The Aggies will face Oregon in the College Station super regional after the Ducks beat their regional hosts, UC Santa Barbara, to get there.

T-3. North Carolina Tar Heels (+800)

North Carolina narrowly avoided elimination in their region after winning a win-or-go-home regional final game against LSU in 10 innings. By taking out the reigning champions, the Tar Heels’ path to Omaha becomes clearer. They’ll play West Virginia in a best-of-3 super regional for a chance to play in the CWS.

T-3. Kentucky Wildcats (+800)

Kentucky is tied for third in the power rankings despite securing the No. 2 national seed ahead of the tournament. The Wildcats finished tied with Tennessee with a 22-8 conference record during the regular season but fell short of a conference semifinal appearance in the SEC tournament. Like its fellow SEC representatives at the top of this list, Kentucky is undefeated in this tournament so far. The Wildcats will take on national No. 15 seed Oregon State in the super regionals.

5. Virginia Cavaliers (+1200)

The Cavaliers will get to host a super regional this year after national No. 5 seed Arkansas failed to win the Fayetteville regional. Now, Virginia will play Kansas State in the round after the Cavs swept their own regional, including a seven-run win in the final over Mississippi State. Virginia is looking for a second straight trip to Omaha after a frustrating run last year that featured two one-run losses to knock it out of the CWS early.
