DeLa pipeline would travel from West Texas to Moss Bluff

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) -Opposition is already mounting to a proposed pipeline almost seven hundred miles long that would run from West Texas to the Moss Bluff area.

Right now the pipeline is in what’s called the pre-filing stage, when companies are getting ready to submit applications to FERC– the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The DeLa Express Pipeline would carry natural gas 690 miles from Texas at the Permian Basin to the Moss Bluff area.

Some people in the Vinton area are already organizing to oppose the pipeline saying it would disrupt their lives and hurt wildlife and the environment. A spokesman for the company pursuing permission for the pipeline says there are economic benefits.

“The benefits are to be able to provide a safe, reliable opportunity to transport the natural gas from the Permian to the markets where it’s needed. Some of that will then be exported and to again provide the gas to international markets,” said Chris Thiele with Moss Lake Partners LP. He says there is a need for the pipeline.

“With production in the Permian basin, there’s a need for takeaway capacity or pipelines to transfer the natural gas that’s from the Permian to markets and secondly there’s a market in the area where the pipeline will terminate near Lake Charles Louisiana both due to the existing LNG plants in the area as well as other industry and other consumers,” said Thiele.

According to information handed out to visitors at the open house held in Vinton, the company says it will hire a qualified pipeline contractor with experience and capabilities to complete the process in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner throughout construction.

The company proposing the pipeline will be at open house meetings through the month of June. Wednesday night they are in Liberty, Texas and Thursday night in Cleveland Texas.

Here is the company’s web site.
