Florida Man takes a shot at archery at the Newberry Sports Complex

NEWBERRY, Fla. (WCJB) – In this week’s edition of Florida Man Adventures, our host TV20′s Adam Pittman showcases archery in Newberry. Pittman details his adventure with Easton Archery Center:

Today on Florida Man Adventures we are at the Newberry Sports Complex, at the Easton Archery Center where thousands of archers have been trained on the technical and growing sport of archery. Easton archery is named after James L. Easton who was an innovator in the sport of archery.

Easton Archery can cater to shooters of all ages and they have both indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. They teach people of all skill levels from total novices such as myself to elite-level athletes.

There are a multitude of classes for archers, they even host some Olympic teams.

“Team Canada comes out once a year, right before the outdoor season starts,” Aubrey Webster, archery program manager. “That way they can get a little bit of shooting in before the main season starts. Since they can’t do that at home.”

The instructors teach both the physical and mental skills that are needed to keep your shot going straight. Learning to manage a bow and arrow is an important part of archery.

Easton teaches many styles of archery, not just competition shooting.

“We also have our field range, which is more for the hunting-style tournaments that we do,” said Webster.

Teaching people a multitude of archery styles and skill sets is a driving force at Easton.

“One of our main goals is to inspire individuals in the sport of archery, and we achieve that by collaborating with partners from all over the U.S. and around the world. By providing resources and services that will continue to result in that growth and lifelong enjoyment of archery.”
