Apple watchOS 11 allows fitness buffs to dig deeper, and rest
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) watchOS 11 adds several new features and apps, while maintaining its focus on health and physical activities, the company announced today at WWDC 2024.
The watchOS 11 has a new training mode that utilizes personal data and metrics to better measure user workout durations and intensity over time. It also adjusts for sick days or rest days during workout regimens.
It provides more insight into vital statistics as well. When vitals are out of normal range, it sends users a detailed message to explain why, such as alcohol use or higher elevation. It even tracks detailed pregnancy information.
“Translate app is now on the watch,” said David Clark, senior director of Apple Watch software engineering. “You can see and hear translations right from your wrist.”
watchOS 11 also has the Double Tap API app for developers.
The watch now has a customizable watch face, where one can pull from a photo library to create a unique screen.
It is available today for developers, and a public release is due out this fall.
However, watchOS 11 will not be supported on certain older Apple Watch models, including the original Apple Watch, Apple Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch Series 5.
