Flies, mildew found at Knoxville sports bar during inspection

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — This sports bar is a busy place most of the time, especially when the Vols are on TV. The inspector marked down quite a few critical violations recently.

The grade is a 62 at Peyton’s Place on Schubert Road which is off Merchant Drive in North Knoxville. The sports bar has no connection to its namesake. That 62 is a failing score as any grade of 69 and below is considered failing.

To begin with, when the inspector checked the dishwasher, no sanitizer was running through the final cycle, but it was supposed to. The inspector found visible food debris struck on kitchen equipment which suggests it had not been properly washed and cleaned.

Multiple fruit flies were also seen buzzing around in both bar areas, but they were not allowed.

The inspector also wrote that there was build-up on the outside of equipment, stored equipment, shelving, the inside of the microwave and prep coolers. In addition, mildew was found growing in the drink cooler.

In addition, date markings on some ready-to-eat foods were several days beyond the seven-day date marking period. On some other ready-to-eat foods, the inspector found no date marks, but guessing as to when the food was prepared is not allowed.

Finally, when the inspector checked the men’s and women’s restrooms, he writes they didn’t smell good. They apparently needed a lot of attention.

The inspector returned to Peyton’s Place. The critical violations were checked and all were corrected. The new grade is 88.
