A Macon health, fitness club will permanently close its doors next month. Here’s why.
Ambitions Health Club has announced it will cease operations and permanently close its doors in September.
The club announced in a Facebook post that Sept. 15 would be its final day of business.
“It is with profound sadness that we must inform you of the difficult decision to close Ambitions Health Club,” the post stated. “Despite nearly five years of dedicated efforts to sustain and grow the business, we have been unable to overcome the financial challenges.”
Owners Dennis and Clay Whitaker said in the post they have poured their hearts, time and resources into making Ambitions Health Club a thriving and supportive community. They said it has been their honor to serve the community, and they deeply regret that they can no longer continue the journey with Macon residents.
Syeda Ahmed, who has been a member of the club since 2021, said she is not surprised by the closure and feels annoyed with how members were notified.
“It’s not the cleanest gym and the staff took over a week to let their members know they sold it,” she said. “But, I saw it coming from the neglect.”
However, many Facebook users expressed sadness to see the gym go. One said it was their favorite gym while they were attending Mercer University. Another stated it was a great loss to the community.
Membership dues will no longer be collected. The club will remain open and memberships will be active until the club’s final day of operation, according to the post.
“We are deeply grateful for your support and membership,” the post stated. “We encourage you to continue your fitness journey at another facility that meets your needs.”
Ambitions Health Club is at 5430 Bowman Road and can be reached at 478-405-5220.
