A Must-Play Zelda-Like Leads PS Plus’ Free Game Offerings This Month
It’s the first day of a new month, and Sony has announced the latest set of free games you can get as a subscriber of PlayStation Plus. It’s not an amazing list, but what’s on offer is pretty solid if you’re looking for something to play as spring gets going. In particular, there’s an adorably brilliant fox adventure game you just have to check out.
Sony revealed the four games you can download for (essentially) free with your PS Plus membership on the official PlayStation Blog. They include 2023’s Lightfall expansion for the first-person sci-fi shooter Destiny 2, EA Sports’ soccer simulator FC 24, and the hard-as-fuck cyberpunk action-slasher sequel Ghostrunner 2. This ain’t too bad of a list, if you ask me, especially since they’re so varied in genre.
But the one that is the most enticing, in my humble opinion, is Tunic. Set in a ruined fantasy world, this little Legend of Zelda-like, isometric action-adventure game by developer Isometricorp Games is about a fox journeying to free a fox spirit trapped in a crystal, and it is so damn cute. The player character is charming, the world is vibrant, and the story, though told without words, is an arresting tale of triumph through adversity. It’s all made particularly fascinating by the fact that you find pages for the game’s instruction manual as you explore the colorful and mysterious world. It’s also not that long, clocking in at around 12 hours, according to game length tracker How Long To Beat. Seriously, it’s well worth your time. As Kotaku senior reporter Ethan Gach so accurately put it, Tunic feels like “a loving throwback to the indie greats of yesteryear.”
All four games will be available to download on May 7.
Aș is customary, some games have to get booted from the PS Plus bench to make room for the incoming titles. The first-person magic-based shooter Immortals of Aveum, the real-time action-strategy game Minecraft Legends, and the roguelike action-platformer Skul: The Hero Slayer will all get pulled on May 6. So, you’ve still got some time to check them out before they’re gone. The full list of PS Plus offerings is below:
