A new business is coming to the heart of Columbia’s BullStreet District. What to know

A new business that will offer a host of salon services is headed to Columbia’s growing BullStreet District.

Image Studios, a high-end salon provider that has locations in 25 states, will open a new location in the First Base Building next to Segra Park, according to a release from BullStreet officials. The 5,700-square-foot facility is set to open in November, and will have space for up to 29 independent beauty professionals to have their own customizable suites.

The location is expected to ultimately offer a full-range of services, including hair stylists, estheticians, massage therapists, MedSpa professionals, nail technicians, microblading artists, lash technicians and makeup artists.

“We’ve had incredible success across the country with our innovative approach to helping independent beauty professionals take more control over their careers,” Image Studios Columbia owner Charles Stovall said in a statement. “We provide modern, high-end salon space to professionals that is unique, elegant and luxurious at an affordable rate. They bring their talents, passions and clientele and we help them succeed without the usual expense and hassle of owning a traditional salon.”

The city of Columbia and Greenville’s Hughes Development are in the midst of a long-term plan to overhaul the 181-acre former State Mental Hospital site at Bull Street. The city has committed more than $100 million for infrastructure at the property.

The site is home to hundreds of apartments and residences, with more under construction, as well as the Columbia Fireflies baseball team, a Starbucks, an REI outdoor store, a Publico restaurant, the Iron Hill Brewery, and a host of professional offices, among other uses. The University of South Carolina also is planning a $300 million medical school campus on the northeast side of the BullStreet property.

And recently, storefront business and retail announcements have been gaining momentum at BullStreet. Fitness studio Pvolve has opened a location there, growing seafood restaurant chain Shuckin’ Shack is developing a location in the district, and Southern brunch favorite Tupelo Honey has a restaurant under construction near Segra Park. Popular Greenville coffee company Methodical also has announced a location in BullStreet.

“Image Studios is a thriving national brand that is a wonderful addition to the BullStreet District,” Hughes Development president Robert Hughes said in a statement. “Like everything at the BullStreet District, it emphasizes quality service in a unique way.”
