A Trailer During Summer Game Fest Costs $250,000 for 1 Minute, It’s Claimed
A new report from Esquire has outlined the approximate costs for running a trailer during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest.
The outlet says that according to ‘multiple marketing professionals’, the Summer Game Fest’s main show will cost “$250,000 for 1 minute, $350,000 for 1.5 minutes, $450,000 for 2 minutes, and $550,000 for 2.5 minutes”, with the prices allegedly being in line with last year’s edition of The Game Awards.
“If you add up all of the 1-to-2.5-minute trailers aired during last year’s Summer Game Fest, those price levels could translate into a $9.65 million”, says Esquire. Speaking to PR professionals, the outlet says that “PR folks at larger studios say these trailer premieres are worth the spend”, but “the current pricing tiers make Summer Game Fest an unattainable goal for most indie developers and publishers”.
What’s particularly interesting here, though, is that the prices this year are supposedly the same as those of The Game Awards, which could explain why the show pressed winners during their acceptance speeches to “Wrap it up” after only 30 seconds of speaking—which is $125,000 of potential marketing revenue.
Geoff Keighley is yet to respond to the report.
